Hoplite Entertainment is an Emmy award winning production company headquartered in Los Angeles, California. Hoplite specializes in the development and production of original television and feature film projects, working closely with local entities as well as governments, film councils and other production companies across the world to produce high quality and compelling unscripted and narrative television content. Hoplite has produced projects that range from action/adventure feature films to scripted narrative television as well as unscripted docu-series and game shows.
Hoplite also has office and facilities in Athens, Georgia, Johannesburg South Africa and Zagreb, Croatia. To date, Hoplite has produced over 300 hours of television & film since its formation in 2013.
Jon Smith has worked in the entertainment industry as a producer, executive producer and show runner for over 16 years, beginning with large scale live event production. Jon began producing TV and Film in 2005 and has oversaw the production of multiple unscripted shows on 5 continents including, COC Elite (G4), Caribbean Comedy Classic (BET), Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (ABC), and Pop This Way (Mnet).
In 2013, Jon formed Hoplite Entertainment, utilizing his years of industry experience to oversee the production of hundreds of hours of original television programs as well as narrative and feature film content. Jon acted as the executive producer and director of the unscripted television program Stable Wars: Del Mar, which aired on Fox Sports and won a regional emmy in the Lifestyle Programming category. Since founding Hoplite, Jon has managed the international development, production and distribution of television and film projects of through a vast global network of partners and affiliates.
Rob is a serial entrepreneur and has founded and operated over 20 different companies in various fields since he was 16 years old. Rob prides himself on being able to identify business opportunities and trends in widely varying fields. He has raised and managed over $600 million in equity investment capital for alternative investments, mainly real estate, as well as built successful companies with over $100 million in annual revenue. His business acumen has enabled him to deliver strong returns to his investors in companies such as Sylvan Road Capital, HavenBrook Partners, HavenBrook Homes, Chesapeake Construction, Axio Design and Rental STAT.
Rob joined Hoplite in 2016 and has since helped to sure up the financial infrastructure of the company while overseeing all the cash flows. With a more traditional finance background, he brings a fresh look to the finance models that Hoplite deals in.
Lord is currently a producer/partner at Hoplite Entertainment where he writes and produces projects for film and television. As a screenwriter Lord has written scripts for Universal Pictures, Summit Entertainment, NBC, FOX, Comedy Central and a feature film for Disney and Academy Award-winning producer, Scott Rudin. Previously, Lord was a principal/producer at Lord/Weaver productions based at Columbia Pictures. Some notable producing credits for Lord include, “The Heartbreak Kid” (Dreamworks), “Surfwise” (Magnolia Pictures/HDNet Films), and “Chain of Fools” (Warner Bros).
Jonathan Perkins has worked in the entertainment industry for over 10 years, beginning his career at Alcon Entertainment before working at Dreamworks Animation, where he worked on Kung Fu Panda 2. Since joining Hoplite, Jon has been involved in various feature film projects as a writer, director and producer including Boone the Bounty Hunter, Boone The Bounty Hunter 2, Flight Z, Dangerous Games, and several projects currently in development.
Jon has also produced original television content at Hoplite, including acting as the show runner for Wrecking Plan, which has aired on A&E international outlets and is represented by Blue Ant Media globally. Jon also acted as show runner for the recently completed series, Drone Wars, which is currently airing in the United States on Direct TV.
James has been legal counsel to Hoplite since its formation in 2013 and has been practicing law since 1995 following his graduation from Fordham University School of Law in New York City. James is licensed to practice law in California, Florida, New York and Pennsylvania and is admitted to practice in over a dozen federal district courts. James handles all legal issues arising from the development, production and distribution of Hoplite’s content as well as all corporate formation, organization and operational issues.
In addition to his extensive corporate and transactional experience, James is a seasoned litigator, having handled hundreds of state and federal lawsuits and lead counsel in dozens of jury trials prior to his tenure at Hoplite.
Jenilee Reyes is a multi-faceted creative artist, having worked in the entertainment industry for over a decade as both a performer and producer, including acting as the host of Pop this Way (MNET). Her producing career began as a development executive at Hoplite where she helped develop and eventually produce Stable Wars: Del Mar (FOX Sports).
Scott has over 16 years’ experience in the entertainment industry that runs the gamut from high profile talent agencies to large international production companies. Scott’s career began at the William Morris Agency followed by a stint with Vin di Bona Productions, the latter at which he discovered passion for the creative process.
Scott helped produce the popular Tru TV show, Bait Car followed by success in scripted television with the HBO series, The Baghdad Country Club, with John Lesher attached to produce. Scott also secured the sale of a series concept to the History Channel titled Till We Meet Again. In 2012 Scott was hired as Head of Development for Regis Philbin’s production company in Los Angeles, RAF Television. Scott developed and packaged multiple specials, game shows and docu series to be hosted and/or produced by Mr. Philbin. Scott also developed multiple network and cable docu dramas to be sold under the RAF name. Scott jointed Hoplite in 2016 to oversee development and global sales as well as consulting as a producer on multiple television projects.
Johnny started his career in entertainment as a development executive at Bischoff Hervey Entertainment where he learned the mechanics of the business of international television development, production and sales. In 2014, Johnny founded Bad Ass Media, LLC and quickly secured an overall production deal with Asylum Entertainment, a subsidiary company of Legendary Pictures.
In 2016, Johnny began working for Hoplite and in a brief period of time has been executive producer of six original unscripted television programs.
Formerly a writer for “Bitter Lawyer” and a contributor to the Indiewire Network’s “Shadow and Act”, Martine has interviewed legendary filmmaker Euzhan Palcy and has written articles about life as a government lawyer and film related pieces on the relationship between Haiti and the Dominican Republic. She’s worked with South Africa’s Department of Trade and Industry to train South African filmmakers on navigating the American Film Market (AFM). In that capacity, she has developed and presented a series of in–person instructional seminars to hundreds of filmmakers across several cities in South Africa then personally shephered South African filmmakers through the annual AFM in Los Angeles, managed their AFM office and facilitated business connections.
She is a seasoned producer who currently serves as Hoplite’s Executive Vice President of Production where she focuses on films and unscripted television content that have been acquired by DirectTV and A&E subsidiaries. A licensed attorney who practiced law as an Ohio Assistant Attorney General before her career change, she is a graduate of The Ohio State University’s Moritz College of Law.
Blair Castellanos has been an active member of the State Bar of California since 2016 following her graduation from Pepperdine University School of Law, with a Juris Doctor, certificate in International and Comparative Law and the Straus Certificate in Dispute Resolution. She received her B.A. graduating cum laude from the University of California, Irvine.
